Do your fingers & toes ever become cold, numb, painful and change colour?
If yes, you may suffer from ‘Raynaud’s Phenomenon’.
But don’t panic just yet!
It’s a common condition thought to affect up to 10 million people in the UK.
This condition affects the blood vessels in the body’s extremities (fingers & toes).
The image shows the subtle changes to the colour of the skin and nail. You may notice these changes at this time of year.
In our podiatry clinic we advise you take note of the temperature drop in the Autumn and Winter months and dress appropriately.
Sounds simple doesn’t it?
But when in a rush we sometimes forget our gloves as we dash out the door.
Not only gloves but socks too! Did you know the natural fibres in Bamboo socks can help keep your feet warm in the winter months?
We also notice this condition with many of our patients who wear thin slip on shoes that do not provide adequate protection from the cold pavements and prevailing winds. Thicker soled shoes are preferable.
There are also moisturising balms you can apply to your skin prior to going outdoors which contain extract of chilli to warm the skin, which some people find helpful.
